Securing Your NHT Refund
A Foolproof Guide to the Official Process
If you are eligible, it’s time to apply for your NHT refund for contributions made in 2016 or earlier. There is no rush; you can apply any time this year.
To apply for the refund, visit the official website at nht.gov.jm and follow the steps right there on the home page under “Contribution Refund”. You can also use the official mobile app and the official NHT Online Portal at online.nht.gov.jm.
Here’s what not to do
Notice how many times I said “official”? Don’t Google the address, don’t click on a link someone sent you and don’t give out your information on the phone. The NHT isn’t going to call you; that’s just not how it works. The NHT is not going to email you with a link or send a message from a Gmail account or some other ‘sus’ email address.
Under no circumstances should you use a third-party website, and don’t let sketchy people help you enter your information ’cause if they put their bank account instead of yours, you are out of luck.
Here’s what you should do
Gather your information, including your employment history, TRN and NIS numbers and banking details, before you visit the website or app. It just makes it easier to have everyihing together.
Once you’ve successfully applied, take note of your receipt number and mark your calendar to check your bank account in 15 working days. Actually, you should be checking your bank account much more often than that to monitor for scams.
Here it is in a nutshell
Remember, the official NHT channels, such as their website at nht.gov.jm, the official mobile app, and the NHT Online Portal at online.nht.gov.jm, are your trustworthy allies in the refund application process. Stay vigilant and avoid unofficial sources. Your personal information is valuable, so don’t risk it by using third-party websites or responding to unsolicited emails or calls. You ensure a smooth and secure process by taking charge of your application through the official channels.
Good luck!
