Smile Jamaica Gone A Lead

TVJ General Manager Kay Osborne brought a lot to the show this morning. First, she brought herself – radiant and intriguing. Second, she brought her pets – two mixed breed dogs (that’s mongrel for those of you who are PC challenged), adopted from the JSPCA. But most importantly, she brought good news – TVJ has increased its leading market share even further, widening the gap between its nearest competitor.

I see the increase , as a reward for TVJ’s massive investment in local programming. Count it up; daily programmes like Smile Jamaica and Prime Time News, weekly programmes like Rising Stars, Dancing Dynamites and Fame and Fortune, features like Wah Yuh Sey and Health Watch - possibly more local contents than any other broadcast network in the region.

As for Smile Jamaica, we rejoiced in the good news along with our musical guests. Alone, Jodi McCalla is mesmerizing. With a choir, she is inspiring. Her voice resonated through the studio, carried on the combined voices of the true Worshipers Choir. Not to be outdone, the youthful Vauxhall High School Choir, 2007 All Together Sing winners (yet another local programme on TVJ), got the morning moving with a rousing medley followed by an original track showcasing lead singer – Camille Plunket. Principal Angela Chaplin had nothing but praise for her students.

Outside, I savoured the jerk chicken prepared by Patricia, Paul and deejay Lexxus, while Neville sat enviously inside the studio with Denise CB’s Stewart and T.O.K deejay Craigy T. Lexxus, Craigy T, Tami Chynn and D’Angel will compete with professional chefs in the annual CB Pan Chicken Competition this Sunday.

Thanks to our guests: Angela Clarke of Alfa Arts, Meredith Williams and Kemeaka Duncan of CASMET.

Allow me to support Kaye in promoting pet adoption. It is indeed a wonderful thing to give a pet a home. As the proud parent of an adopted cat, I encourage you to open your heart and home to animal from the JSPCA.

Next scheduled appearance: Thursday, May 1
