A great father, grandfather, brother, friend, leader
Winston Albert Carl DeLeon peacefully passed away on December 7, 2021, following a brief illness. He was 73 years old.
Born in Stokes Hall, St Thomas, Jamaica on February 12, 1948, to Winston and Beulah Matilda DeLeon (nee Christie). He was the youngest of four children: Hugh, Carmen and Fay (deceased).
Carl, as he was affectionately known, attended St Michael’s Anglican Church and Kingston College.
He worked as a salesman at various business places before finding a home at GraceKennedy. Grace supported his successful efforts to own and run C-Del’s Supermarket, the lynchpin of his business empire which, at various times, included a restaurant, a nightclub, a retail plaza and an event rental business.
With his new home in Linstead, St Catherine Carl established deeper community roots as a senior member of the Lions Club of North St Catherine. He was conferred with the honour of a Melvin Jones Fellow. Carl was also a member of the Police Civic Committee and highly respected for his ongoing philanthropic efforts.
He married Claudette DeLeon (nee Tucker), the mother of two of his children, Carlette and Carlyle Troy. He fathered two additional children, Corey and Christine.
Later Carl settled with his dear friend, Joy Topping, with whom he co-managed a service station, car wash and restaurant.
He is survived by Joy, his children Carlette, Carlyle, Corey and Christine, his siblings Hugh and Carmen, niece Ann Marie, nephews Richard and Hugh Jr, eight grandchildren — Rajae, Caresse, Caressa, Jamari, Serayah, Elli, Jaden, Caleb other family and friends..
